This museum showcases the remarkable history of the state of Illinois, dating all the way back to the Ice Age!
The Dickson Mounds Museum is an important establishment located outside of Lewiston, Illinois that’s dedicated to promoting discovery, lifelong learning, and stewardship of the natural and cultural heritage of the state. The museum was founded in 1987 and is chock-full of diverse and intriguing exhibits throughout its 15,000 square feet. Explore exhibits that depict how this region has evolved since the Ice Age and the lives of the native tribes from Illinois and the cultural impact they made. There are also art exhibits, authentic artifacts, and hands-on exhibits that are great for everyone.
The Dickson Mounds Museum also hosts different educational programs and events throughout the year. There are picnic areas outside and a space known as the Eveland Village which holds three excavated and preserved ancient Indian buildings. This is a wonderful facility that offers so much knowledge to its visitors in a captivating way, and you will undoubtedly learn plenty of new things before you leave! The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 4. Admission is free for all guests!
