Enjoy this botanical garden located just above Seattle’s Discovery Park.
In 1931, Carl English was hired by the Army Corps to establish a botanical garden. As he built the gardens, he also helped numerous other gardens come to life, retiring in the 1970s after a long and fulfilling career. He discovered and named three different species of plants. During his time, the garden came to see five hundred separate species and almost two thousand variants of those species. The plants have been collected from all over the world, making for an exotic viewing as you go throughout the garden.
Perhaps as a play on his name, English made the architectural design to reflect the style of gardens that one would find in the typical "English Estate” with clear views to the outside and wide-open spaces. This style of Botanical Garden is quite a popular attraction in this region of Washington. It took Carl English 43 years to complete this project, and it still stands today as a beautiful place where one can enjoy the beauty of nature.
