Boys Town, Nebraska, is the National Headquarters of Boys Town. This historic site was once an overlooked farm purchased by Father Edward J. Flanagan and has since expanded into 640 acres of hope and research for children and families. Boys Town focuses on changing the way America cares for children and families. In this community, visitors can participate in self-guided tours or pay a small fee for a guided tour of the community. Feel free to explore the visitor center, Hall of History, and see the Leon Mers Stamp center, which is also home to the largest ball of postage stamps. Guests can also shop at the Boys Town Gift Shop or enjoy a meal at the cafe.
The Boys Town Museum is a renovated home of Father Edward J. Flanagan and contains artifacts of the early days of Boys Town. You will also learn about actors and see academy awards that were awarded to the 1938 featured film “Boys Town." The museum also shows an exciting review and history of how Boys Town has transformed the many lives of American children through research, education, and family living. Walk around the grounds to see Flanagan's tomb and historic buildings, chapels, gardens, and statues before you leave. Boys Town is a national historic landmark and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, and parking is free and features spots large enough for buses.
