Black Hills Caverns

Explore incredible cave formations in Rapid City.

Located just outside of Rapid City, the Black Hills Caverns feature underground rooms. There are 3 levels of passages, including an underground stream with calcite crystals, stalactites and stalagmites, columns, and frost crystal. Choose from two different tours. The Crystal Tour is an easy guided tour of the main level that is 3/4 a mile and can take about 30 minutes. They have some activities for kids, like gemstone panning. Children under 5 years old can find and keep some of the crystals in the Crystal Mine.

The Adventure Tour takes visitors through over 20 cave formations on the extensive underground hike. It is 3/4 of a mile long with lots of stairs. Visitors will find themselves 250 feet underground in the last room. It can be chilly, so bring a jacket and wear sturdy shoes if you plan to visit. The tour guides are fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the caves. All tours leave from the gift shop every half-hour, and the last tour leaves 1 hour before closing. Black Hills Caverns are open from 9 am - 4 pm during the summer. Explore this natural wonder the next time you're in South Dakota.
