See one of the first cast-iron lighthouses in the southern United States.
The Biloxi Lighthouse is located off U.S. Highway 90 in Biloxi, Mississippi. This historic 64-foot lighthouse has been around since 1848, and several female lighthouse keepers took care of it. Maria Younghans was a notable keeper that worked at the lighthouse for 53 years. In fact, this lighthouse has been managed by more female keepers than any other U.S. lighthouse. The Biloxi Lighthouse has withstood the test of time and survived Hurricane Katrina, making it a notable landmark and symbol of perseverance to the people of Biloxi.
The U.S. Coast Guard operates this lighthouse, but daily guided tours are available. Check their website or call for current information. Admission rates are $5 per adult, $2 for children ages 6-11, and free for ages five and younger. If you love historic landmarks, stop by the Biloxi Lighthouse on Mississippi's gulf coast.
