Visit this historic museum full of exhibits and items related to Arizona's territorial era.
This 19th-century adobe was the home of E. F. Sanguinetti. It is located in the middle of historic Yuma, Arizona. The building and grounds are operated by the Arizona Historical Society, and they are open to the public for tours and tea throughout the day during the winter months. Sanguinetti (1867 - 1945) was known as the "Merchant Prince of Yuma." He came to Yuma with nothing at age 15 and quickly became a civic-minded businessman. He ran several enterprises such as electricity services, an ice house, a farm, merchandising, banking, and real estate. He cared about and loved his community deeply.
House tours provide visitors with information about local history and opportunities to see original artifacts from the Sanguinetti family. The staff is very knowledgeable and excited about sharing everything they know about the home and the area. There are seven rooms inside the Sanguinetti House, one of which is now a chocolate shop. Visitors are welcome to touch the items in the museum, such as the piano that is over 100 years old.
Don't forget to explore the gardens after touring the home. Another activity hosted on-site is the CLUES: History Mysteries of Yuma. It is a tribute to Yuma's early citizens' spirit, ingenuity, and iron resilience. The museum is set up like the board game Clue, and it is a fun and interactive way to learn. Stop in for a decadent sweet at the Sanguinetti Chocolate Shoppe before you leave.
