The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame was founded in 1978 and is located just south of the Birmingham Museum of Art. It celebrates Alabaman jazz musicians such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dinah Washington. The last Saturday in August is a great time to visit. This is when the annual jazz festival is held in downtown Birmingham. Their one-day outdoor jazz festival has been a tradition since 2003, and it is a free public event. Jazz music has a history of hope and resilience.
