A beautiful mosaic that enhances the beauty of the San Francisco Golden Gate Heights area.
San Francisco is known for its art and culture, as well as its unique places throughout the city. One of these places is the 16th Avenue tiled steps. Located near the Golden Gate Heights neighborhood, this attraction is a fun one to see.
Local neighborhood artists created these brilliant steps in 2005. There are 163 steps on this staircase, and it is truly a mosaic masterpiece. This particular artwork is called the "Sea to Stars." The mosaic includes animals, stars, and other designs that make it look distinct. All of the mosaic pieces were handmade by the artists in collaboration with the local community, who helped make some of the panels. The acting mayor at the time was so impressed when it opened that they named August 27th “16th Avenue Tiled Steps Day”.
There is a planted garden around the staircase with lots of things to look at, such as native California plants and succulents. This garden and staircase are important to the area because it served to connect all the nearby San Francisco neighborhoods and will always beautify the area.
