Learn about women's rights and see where the first national women's rights convention was held.
The Women's Rights National Historical Park is located in Seneca Falls, New York, near the It's a Wonderful Life bridge. What makes this area unique is that it was where the nation's first women's rights convention was held (the summer of 1848). At the park, you can enter the visitor center, historical homes and see the water wall. The visitor center has a permanent gallery full of exhibits on the second floor, and it is right next to Declaration Park, where you can see the water wall.
Wesleyan Chapel (the building where the convention was held) can be viewed outside but no longer allows people to go inside. This brick building was constructed in 1843 and became part of the national park service in 1985. Women's Rights National Historical Park is open daily year-round. You are free to walk around the park grounds from dawn to dusk, and the visitor center is open on various days depending on the season. If you enjoy American history, be sure to stop by the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls.
