Take a look at this immaculate historic castle and tour the outdoor gardens.
The “castle on the hill” is located just off of Interstate 64. This immaculate monastery was founded in 1867 and is certainly a sight to behold. It is on the national register of historic places and is kept and maintained by the Sisters of St. Benedict in Indiana. Not only can guests take a tour of the historic site, but they may also explore the beautiful gardens outside at their leisure. This is a neat place to look around and take in the beauty and craftsmanship of everything inside and outside the monastery. Guests can view several shrines outside as well as stations of the cross.
Guided tours of the monastery are available every day except Mondays. Saturdays and Sundays have limited time slots for tours. You can contact the monastery and ask about scheduling a private group tour as well. The monastery sells several baked goods nearby such as homemade bread, cookies, pretzels, and jellies. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop which has different puzzles, key chains, wind chimes, bracelets, rosaries, cards, soaps, and even watercolor prints available for purchase. All sales go towards supporting the Sisters of St. Benedict and their mission. If you would like to visit during Mass, the monastery offers several Catholic Mass sessions throughout the week.
