Learn about mysterious creatures such as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster.
For the curious zoologist, this museum holds a collection of 2,000 historic and preserved specimens at the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine. This family-friendly museum is dedicated to the study of unknown creatures. Loren Coleman conducted years of study by interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and traveling to the sites where mysterious creatures have been spotted. Within the two-story building are multiple exhibits offering intriguing facts about myths, theories, and possible past or present existences of beings.
Bigfoot and Nessie are not the only mysterious beings you will learn about. Other creatures such as the Yeti, the Abominable Snowman, the coelacanth (an animal represented in the IBM logo), and mermaids. Their footprints, droppings, fossils, and other signs of life have been collected and looked after since the museum’s opening in 2003. Photographers and reporters are welcome, as well as regular tourists. The collection is ongoing, and always accepting new donations if you are interested. The museum is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm with affordable admission rates for all ages.
