Fort Ross State Historic Park is situated on the coast in gorgeous Sonoma County, California. This state park showcases the history that’s embedded here and the cultural ties it has to the Kashia Pomo people. Fort Ross was a Russian-American settlement from 1812 until 1842 and was an established agricultural center for providing supplies to Alaska. The park is comprised of 6,000 acres and makes for a wonderful place to visit if you want to learn about the remarkable history here or just marvel at this region’s stunning surroundings.
Lace up your hiking shoes and explore the 20 miles of trails here at the park, snap pictures of the breathtaking Pacific coast, or head to Sandy Cove, which is a protected beach just below the fort that has amazing tide pools during low tide. There’s even a historic orchard that’s a 30-minute walk up from the fort that dates back to the Russian-era. This park offers a unique look into the past that’s unlike anything else. Fort Ross State Historic Park is open every day from 10 am until 4:30 pm and admission is $10 per vehicle.
