A unique variation of Stonehenge located in Western Nebraska.
While it started as a family project, Carhenge has become a well-known attraction in Nebraska. Carhenge is based on the prehistoric monument in England called Stonehenge. Carhenge also follows a similar proportion to that of Stonehenge and comprises 38 cars with a total diameter of 98 feet. All the cars are from the 1950s and 1960s and were saved from farms and local junkyards closeby. These cars have been spray-painted to look more like Stonehenge.
Carhenge does not have an entry fee but the area tends to be open from dawn to dusk. Originally, the people in town did not support this monument and even called it a junkyard. As the years went on, the town started to recognize that it was a roadside attraction. If you want to learn even more about this monument, check out the visitor center. There is also the car art sculpture park in the same area that allows artists to express their creativity and showcase it to visitors. Carhenge gives a modern day spin to the classic Stonehenge monument. Be sure to stop by here when traveling through Nebraska.
