Visit California's historic silver mining town.
Located off I-15 in Yermo, California, Calico is an old silver mining town that has been around since the late 1800s. The town was abandoned in the 1890s when silver lost its value. A town that once provided an abundant living for miners quickly lost its hustle and bustle and became a "ghost town" instead. Calico was purchased and architecturally restored by Walter Knott in the 1950s. A few buildings were left untouched to help keep their historic charm and ensure the entire town looks like it did in the 1800s.
This quaint, family-friendly attraction is roughly 80 miles northeast of San Bernadino, California. Visitors can come daily between 9 am to 5 pm and can enjoy the town's quaint shops, restaurants, camping, hiking, and off-roading trails. Calico Ghost Town is a great stop and has many shops offering candy and toys, crafts, panning for silver, and ice cream. Check out this neat ghost town the next time you're in southern California.
