Tour through this vintage drift mine in West Virginia.
The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is located in southern West Virginia off Interstate 64. Guests can tour the underground mine, see the coal camp, and explore the museum during their visit. Veteran miners guide visitors through the mine and provide a history of the mine along with personal experiences. At the coal camp, you will see the coal company house, blacksmith shop, general store, church, a one-room schoolhouse, and other historic buildings to help you imagine what life was like for coal miners and their families in the early 20th century.
This place is open seasonally from April 1 through November 2. Guided tours are about 35 minutes long. Admission prices are $22 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $12.50 for children. Discounted rates are available for large groups of 15 or more people. All are welcome to use the picnic areas outside while walking around the recreated coal camp. Be sure to purchase some of their fresh fudge at the gift shop before you go. This family-friendly attraction is a fun pit stop to add to your West Virginia itinerary.
