Visit New Jersey's second tallest lighthouse.
Guests who visit Barnegat Lighthouse State Park can enjoy watching migratory birds or fishing along the shore. There is also a small maritime forest with a 0.2-mile loop trail. The lighthouse is open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Feel free to go inside to learn about its history and climb up the tower to see a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. Originally built in 1834, the first Barnegat lighthouse was only 40 feet high. The current lighthouse is 172 feet tall and was designed by General George Meade.
There is a small fee to climb the tower. Visitors can enter Barnegat Lighthouse between 10 am and 4:30 pm. This state park is perfect for a day trip and has picnic tables available on a first-come, first-served basis. Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is a great place to visit and will be worth your time if you enjoy historic lighthouses.
