Tahquamenon Falls State Park

 

Tahquamenon Falls State Park encompasses nearly 50,000 acres of undeveloped woodlands. There are over 13 miles without roads, buildings, or power lines, offering enough space for outdoor lovers to get away from it all. The crown jewel of the park is the Tahquamenon River and its beautiful waterfalls. Upper Falls is one the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River and it can flow up to 50,000 gallons of water per second.  It cascades nearly 50 feet and has an impressive 200 feet span, making it a picturesque spot. Four miles downstream is the Lower Falls, which is a series of five smaller falls surrounding an island. The Lower Falls are not as dramatic as the Upper Falls, but they are equally picturesque. The island walk affords a view of the falls from the south channel.

 

The park offers camping year-round, with some campsites having 50 amp service. Tahquamenon's track chair allows visitors to explore areas of the park where traditional wheelchairs cannot go. These off-road, electronic chairs can easily handle trails, snow, sand, and up to 8 inches of water and are available on a first-come, first-served basis at no cost.
