Take a trip to northern Michigan and explore this historic lighthouse.
The McGulpin Point Lighthouse is located in northern Michigan off of Interstate 75. It was constructed soon after congress appropriated $20,000 of funds to establish the lighthouse during the 1860s. One of the main lighthouse keepers was James Davenport, who faithfully filled out weekly reports about the conditions of the waters on the lake to help mariners know when it would be safe to travel out there every spring. This lighthouse was in operation from 1869 to 1906 and it has been open to the public since 2009.
Visitors will be able to see the Mackinac Bridge from this site. McGulpin Point Lighthouse is open daily for tours from mid-May through September. Summer hours are 10 am to 6 pm, but the park grounds are always open year-round. If you want to stay overnight, they offer accommodations at the McGulpin Point Lighthouse Cottage. If you love lighthouses, be sure to visit McGulpin Point Lighthouse as you're traveling through northern Michigan.
