Bring your binoculars and view various wildlife creatures in their natural habitat at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Located in southeastern Rhode Island, this outdoor sanctuary features over 2-miles of hiking trails, viewing platforms, and gorgeous views of the bay. Over 200 bird species have been spotted here, including loons, eiders, peregrine falcons, snowy owls, gannets, and harlequin ducks. There are several acres of salt marshes, offering space for visitors to observe birds and other wildlife living in the refuge.
The local visitor center is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm and features exhibits to help you learn more about the animals and rich ecosystem within the refuge. If you come here for fishing, you are allowed to fish from the shoreline along the Sakonnet River or Sachuest Bay. This refuge is known for its nighttime fishing. Be aware that you must purchase a permit to fish here after sunset. This is not a pet-friendly area and they recommend wearing sunscreen, bug spray, comfortable shoes, and long pants.
