The Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour provides the ideal way to explore an authentic and historical gold mine in southwest Colorado.
The Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour is the best way to dive into all of the historical significance located here at the Old Hundred Gold Mine right outside of Silverton, Colorado. The site where the mine is within Galena Mountain was claimed by three brothers in the late 1800s. Over the course of three decades, the brothers developed a small mining town and worked to create the mine tunnel systems where gold was extracted. Unfortunately, the gold was depleted quite quickly, and the town was abandoned shortly after in 1908. Any remaining buildings were torn down and the majority of the equipment was sold – all that was left was a boardinghouse which still stands today.
Today, the mine is available for tours through the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour organization. You get to go 1/3 of a mile into the large mountain and learn firsthand about the history of this mine and the significance it held throughout the era of its prime. Visitors are still able to see authentic mining equipment that was left behind in the mountain and the old boardinghouse that remains 2,000 feet up on the side of Galena Mountain.
