Take a trip to the beach and watch the birds at this stunning South Carolina state park.
Huntington Beach State Park is located in northeastern South Carolina. There are a variety of activities to do here, including walking the trails, swimming, bird watching, camping, picnicking, and visiting a historic home. Hundreds of migratory bird species have been seen here, including brown pelicans, blue jays, great blue herons, green-winged teals, pied-billed grebes, red-bellied woodpeckers, Carolina chickadees, and more. If you're here anytime between March and November, they have a Coastal Exploration Program where visitors can participate in guided tours to learn from one of the park rangers.
A national historic landmark is located within the park too. Atalaya is a home featuring Spanish and Mediterranean architecture and it is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Every September, an arts and crafts festival is hosted at Atalaya. Leashed dogs are allowed at the park year-round along the walking trails and at the southern end of the beach. The outdoor areas of this 2,500-acre park are open daily from 6 am to 6 pm, with extended hours during daylight savings time.
