Casa Malpais Archaeological Park & Museum

Casa Malpais Archaeological Park is a historically significant excavation site that dates back to the 13th century.

The Casa Malpais Archaeological Park is located in the eastern region of Arizona, just outside of Springerville. This spectacular park is a Mogollon site that is home to Puebloan archaeological findings that date all the way back to 1260. The various structures and remnants at the site are situated upon basalt lava. This region of Arizona also happens to be one of the largest volcanic fields in the entire country. Guided tours are provided to visitors here, where you will get to learn about the extraordinary history that makes up the park and see the excavations first-hand.

At the archaeological park, you will have the chance to see the Great Kiva, which is an utterly marvelous structure composed out of volcanic rock that captures the attention in the center of the park. Here you will also find an astronomical calendar, incredible ancient stairways, and plenty of other historical art, sculptures, and artifacts. There is also a Casa Malpais Museum in Springerville, where visitors can come learn more in-depth about the Native Americans that lived here and constructed the remarkable tools, artifacts, and structures that have been found here.
