Canalside is a recreational area where guests can kayak, bike, ice skate, and more!
Canalside is a quaint and lovely waterfront park situated on the Buffalo River and Erie Canal in the heart of Buffalo, New York. There’s so much to enjoy at Canalside, from kayaking and paddleboarding to picnicking and ice skating in the winter months. Wonderful outdoor events such as summer concerts and festivals are also held here, so depending on when you visit, you’re in for a treat! There are dining options available here too, so you can truly spend a full day here enjoying all of the fun it has to offer.
There’s also history that’s embedded at Canalside, as the Erie Canal was built in the 1800s to serve as a depot for the passage of cargo as well as passengers. The terminus served an important purpose for many years but was eventually neglected and shut down in the 1920s. In the late 20th century, the city decided it was time to revamp the area and create a beautiful recreational area for the people of Buffalo as well as visitors to enjoy. Aside from the outdoor activities to enjoy here, there is also the Explore & More Children’s Museum, the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, and fascinating art sculptures scattered throughout the grounds. Canalside is open every day from 9 am to 10 pm, so come enjoy all that this awesome park has to offer!
