This naval park is home to several very important pieces of US history, including four decommissioned vessels.
The Buffalo Naval and Military Park is a museum and historic site located on the waterfront of Lake Eerie Buffalo, New York. This is the largest inland naval park in the US and it features four different decommissioned vessels – the USS Little Rock, the USS The Sullivans, the USS Croaker, and the PTF-17, which is a fast patrol boat that was used during the Vietnam War. Each of these vessels has played a huge part of our nation’s history and the naval park allows guests to explore them and dive deep into learning all about them and the sailors that once served them.
You will also find an incredible museum at the Buffalo Naval Park. The museum showcases a variety of artifacts such as tools, medals, and uniforms from multiple branches of the US Armed Forces. The exhibits primarily focus on the history of this region of New York throughout different wars. You also don’t want to forget to stop by the Monuments Garden, which honors many lifetimes of service in the US Armed Forces as well as veterans. This tranquil space is situated right on Lake Eerie and is the perfect place to come pay respects, take a few moments of peace, and observe the various monuments.
The Buffalo Naval Park is a wonderful place for all to visit and it’s guaranteed you’ll leave having learned so much and with a new perspective. The park is open seven days a week seasonally – from March to September it’s open from 10 to 5, from 10 to 4 in October, and on Saturdays and Sundays before Thanksgiving and on Veterans Day from 10 to 4.
