Enjoy a mountain getaway at this rustic lodge.
John Nelson built a farmhouse on land close to Porterville in 1886, which became Nelson's Camp. The camp became a popular stopping point for hunters, fisherman, and cattlemen. Needing more room, Nelson enlarged and remodeled the house and added a second story. Later on, cabins were added around the property. When John Nelson died in 1909, his daughter Emma and her husband ran the camp. A road for vehicles was completed to access Camp Nelson in 1922. After several ownerships, David and Gail Jackson bought the Lodge in 2006, and following some remodeling; it was opened once again to the public.
Camp Nelson Lodge is in the Sequoia National Park and has Western-style, rustic rooms with balconies.
