This wildlife hospital has successfully rehabilitated over 1,000 sea turtles since it opened its doors.
In the tropical paradise of Marathon, Florida, the Turtle Hospital was established to assist injured and sick sea turtles that are discovered around the state. Marathon is one of the Florida Keys, situated just before the start of the Seven Mile Bridge. The hospital’s main goal is to aid the sea turtles brought to the facility as well as to educate the public about these important marine animals. The Turtle Hospital was founded in 1986 and has helped over 1,500 turtles since its opening.
The Turtle Hospital does provide educational tours to the public throughout the week, just be sure to call ahead to ensure your time slot. Turtles can unfortunately get hurt or fall ill quite easily, but the Turtle Hospital has thankfully been able to rescue many that have been brought in. Once the turtles are healed and it is deemed safe, the hospital releases them back into the ocean. The hospital also has a superb research team that has worked to understand these creatures more and some of the health issues that affect them. If you love animals and learning about Florida’s incredible wildlife, the Turtle Hospital should not be passed up if you’re in the area.
