Swim in one of the largest spring-fed swimming pools in the U.S.
Balmorhea State Park is located in west Texas near Interstate 10. It features a naturally spring-fed pool and desert wetland environment full of endangered species and fish. This is an excellent place to go swimming, bird watching, picnicking, and geocaching. Park entry fees apply, but there is no extra charge to swim here. There is no lifeguard on duty, and anyone ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Some parts of the pool go as deep as 25 feet, and it covers over one acre of space, providing plenty of room to swim to your heart's content. The water's temperature remains between 72 and 76 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.
Feel free to book one of their campsites if you want to extend your stay at Balmorhea State Park. August is often the wettest month in this part of Texas, but it features an arid climate with relatively low humidity compared to the gulf coast. If you need a place to relax or cool off while driving through west Texas, stop by Balmorhea State Park.
